FLOWERS OF THE GARDEN

Tulip

Thousands of tulips bloom in the spring and close to a hundred different varieties have been planted in recent years. Many are faithful perennials that come back every year, such as Darwin Hybrid tulips. Parrot tulips are often planted as a family favourite.

Rose

Several roses are from when the house was built in 1927, almost a hundred years old, but many have been planted by the present owners during the last forty years. The treasured rose flower bed on the south side of the house blooms from June to early autumn.

Dahlia

Dahlias have been in the garden for around thirty years, but in the last four years over a hundred dahlias of different varieties have been planted each year. A natural replacement where tulips have left space and that blooms from July to November.

Allium

A few planted spread quickly, Allium thrives in the garden.

Cobaea

Cobaea from South America is a decorative climber in many places in the garden during summer.

Sweet pea

Sweet pea perennials and annuals grow in different areas of the garden.

A variety...

Many of the garden's plants have been allowed to grow undisturbed and there is a widespread naturalisation of bulbs that improves every year. Flowers grown from seeds are a pleasant yearly addition.

PLANTING

Vaxthus

A beloved greenhouse where much is propagated.

First dahlias, begonias and seeds, which then give way to tomatoes and cucumbers, before it becomes a storage space during winter.

Only a few remain...

A few of Blycker's original phlox remain today. They are now over 40 years old.
